AELA's Earth Arts program connects with artists and creatives around Australia, and in 2023/2024 we're inviting amazing artists to share stories about their work and what inspires them.
On 25 May, please join us for a fantastic conversation with internationally renowned photographic and visual artist, Marian Drew. Marian will discuss her personal and creative journey exploring and depicting nature, and how the more-than-human world inspires her art practice. She will also discuss her current exhibition at Brisbane's OneSpace - 'rock, fruit, flower.' (Visit this webpage to find out more - Marian's exhibition is open until 27 May). Marian is in conversation with Dr Michelle Maloney, AELA's Co-founder and National Convenor, who despite being a 'recovering lawyer' is passionate about the role of creativity in environmental activism and governance, and will discuss the journey of AELA's Earth Arts Program since 2012.

MARIAN DREW
Marian Drew is one of Australia's most significant photographic artists, with a practice spanning 30 years in both education and exhibition. She hasheld more than 25 solo exhibitions in Australia, United States ofAmerica, France, Hong Kong and Germany and over 100 group shows in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, France, China, Germany,
Singapore, Taiwan, Peru and the United States.
Marian Drew lives in Brisbane Australia, and is currently Adjunct Associate Professor at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University and PhD candidate at the Canberra School of Art and Design, Australian National University. She
was Queensland College of Art (QCA) Director of the Photography Program 2005-2016, and QCA Deputy Director, 2001-2003, where she taught full time 1986-2016.
Marian's art work is held in collections that include the John Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, Museum of Photographic Art, San Diego, National Gallery of Australia, Fonds National D’Art Contemporain (FNAC), Paris, France, Art Gallery of South Australia and the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, Monash Gallery of Art, Queensland University Art Museum, Murdoch University and Artbank.
MICHELLE MALONEY
Dr Michelle Maloney is a recovering lawyer, governance enthusiast and Earth-centred human being. She is the Co-Founder and Convenor of the Australian Earth Laws Alliance (AELA), Director of the New Economy Network Australia (NENA) and Director of Future Dreaming, an Indigenous and non-indigenous partnership organisation. Within AELA, Michelle has spearheaded Rights of Nature and Earth jurisprudence initiatives in Australia, and oversees AELA's Earth Arts Program.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science and History) and Laws (Honours) from the Australian National University and a PhD in Law from Griffith University. She has more than 30 years experience designing and managing climate change, sustainability and community building projects in Australia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia and the USA. This includes working in solidarity with Indigenous colleagues in Central Queensland, South East Queensland and other regions, on a range of community building, natural resource management and cultural heritage projects.

The Australian Earth Laws Alliance (AELA) is a national not-for-profit organisation working to increase the understanding and practical implementation of Earth-centred governance, with programs that focus on shifting towards Earth-centred law, economics, education and ethics.
